Italian yard Cantiere delle Marche has launched its 32 metre Darwin 106 explorer yacht Uptight.
Uptight was sold to an American owner in May 2019 and will serve as the mothership to a sportfishing fleet. The sale marked the shipyard's first leap into the US market.

The yacht is based on the shipyard's Darwin 106 naval platform, designed by Sergio Cutolo/Hydro Tec, and has been modified to accommodate a number of sportfishing customisations on board. The stern platform has been transformed into an enclosed fishing cockpit with a central "battle station" with screwless rod holders placed along a teak caprail around the cockpit. Meanwhile, flush floor tanks for live bait are located in the cockpit floor.
Where you might expect a beach club set-up or lazarette is now a fully-equipped workshop for the preparation of bait. with ice makers and freezers for long-term food conservation.
The owner hopes to take Uptight on month-long fishing expeditions in Alaska with the help of twin Caterpillar C18 Acert 500kW engines offering a range of 4,700 nautical miles and a top speed of 13 knots.
Below deck, Uptight's interior has been designed by Francesco Guida and can accommodate up to 10 guests. The owner's stateroom sits on the upper deck and opens onto a stern terrace, while the remaining guest accommodation is positioned on the lower deck, comprised of two double cabins, two twins and a large VIP suite.
A sociable ‘country kitchen’ was a special request made by the owner and is connected to a large main saloon.
Vasco Buonpensiere, co-founder of Cantiere delle Marche, said the sale was a watershed moment. “As the market matures, customers get picky and the American owners definitely know what they want. This is why I was so proud when the contract of the Darwin 106 was signed 2 years ago,” he said.
“We knew that our explorers perfectly fitted with American owners’ requirements as for volumes, spaces, robustness, long range, technical reliability, functionality and a no nonsense approach. It has taken us a few years to penetrate the American market but we made it, eventually, as scheduled,” Buonpensiere added.
