Charles Oakley appears to have called off his Patrick Ewing bashing.
Oakley delivered a heartfelt message on social media after his former Knicks teammate and current Georgetown coach announced Friday he is hospitalized with the coronavirus in Washington DC.
“I went to war with you for ten years. I won’t leave you on the battlefield now,” Oakley tweeted along with a photo of he and Ewing with the Knicks. “Get well Patrick. More fights ahead. @CoachEwing33 #BrothersFight #PatrickEwing #GetWellBrother.”
Oakley has been critical of Ewing’s leadership and play during the 90’s Knicks’ playoff battles, specifically against the Michael Jordan-led Bulls.
“My thing with [Jordan] is, ‘It’s not like you beat us by 20,’ ” Oakley told The Post earlier this month. “Most games went down to two, three possessions. Y’all made shots. We didn’t. The best player won. Michael was a better player than Patrick hands down.”
Ewing has taken the high road when it comes to Oakley comments.
“I have nothing to say about what Charles has to say,” Ewing had said on the Good Show when asked about Oakley’s criticism. “He’s one of my best teammates. We went into a lot of wars and a lot of wars against the Bulls. So everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
The Knicks also sent support to Ewing on Friday.
“Get well soon, Big Fella. Stay strong,” the team’s official account wrote with a retweet of Ewing’s statement.
