Central Pa. cancellations, relocations because of poor air quality from wildfire smoke: see our list - PennLive

Editor’s note: This post will be updated as more information is received.

Pennsylvania officials bumped the air quality up to a Code Red again today as conditions because of smoke from wildfires in Canada worsened.

As a result, some scheduled events in central Pa. to be held outdoors are moving inside or are being rescheduled.

The Code Red was issued for areas including Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.

“Everyone may experience health effects. Members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors,” the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said in a statement.

The Code Red is expected to last until around 10 p.m. Thursday.

The wildfires in Quebec continued to rage out of control on Wednesday, June 7. Residents of Montreal were being evacuated on Tuesday. More than 150 forest fires were burning and more than 100 of those were considered out of control.
