Thursday on KFYO Mornings with Dave King and Matt Martin, The Car Pro Jerry Reynolds joined Dave and Matt to talk about his test drive of the week, a girl who died from a distracted driver, as well as other auto industry news.
This week The Car Pro was test driving the All-new Ford Explorer ST, a car that has had several big changes in the past year, both with its looks and architecture. Jerry started by explaining that since 2011, the Ford Explorer has been a front wheel drive on a car chassis, but this year, they flipped it, making it a rear wheel drive on a truck chassis. Ford has made the car larger, gave it more room in the third row seat, and made it longer which give it a better ride. But the special thing about this model, and what puts the ST in the name, is the engine. The engine, which was previously a Lincoln engine, is a 3 liter twin turbo that puts out 400 horses. "I'll tell you guys, this thing will really get up and go," said Jerry, going on to say,
This thing just drives great. It's much better than it was last year.
Jerry continued, saying that the car has a nice interior, a good suspension, has good handling, a loaded navigation system, and a moonroof, but that the main thing that is unique about the car is the engine, saying that this is the sporty, fast version of the Ford Explorer. The car has a window sticker price of $60,200, but the car has several big rebates on it.
The Car Pro also talked about the lead story on his website carprousa.com. Jerry explained that a 4 year old girl named Abby was killed in a wreck at a traffic stop. A distracted teenager hit her car from behind while on his phone. Reynolds explained that today is "Wear Purple For Abby Day", and reminds everyone to put your phone down when you're driving.
