BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you are thinking of buying a brand new 2021 Ford Explorer ST, don’t. My 2021 Ford Explorer ST has been sitting at a Delray Beach dealership for nearly a month, dead, because Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) can’t find a $28 part.

It is difficult to believe that in 2021, a brand new SUV would die in a parking lot in Boynton Beach. But it did. What’s even more incredible is that nearly 30 days after needing to be towed from its deathbed off Boynton Beach Blvd., the Explorer still sits in a lot at Grieco Ford in Delray Beach.

To be clear: Grieco has been incredible in trying to resolve the situation. The dead Explorer isn’t Grieco’s fault. The vehicle wasn’t born there. Ford Motor Company, however, is displaying a certain level of incompetence and arrogance that could only come from a legacy American motor company.

I have owned Explorers for years. Perhaps I should have learned not to do that after I battled Ford under Florida’s Lemon Law in 2012 and was awarded a new vehicle. That vehicle’s backup camera, still new technology in 2012, had a unique ability to turn itself off when it got within five feet of an object. Florida’s arbitration board agreed that the failure made the car dangerous. The Board ordered Ford to buy back the vehicle.

Fast forward to now: the ST, a very nice vehicle, started blowing hot air as it entered its second month of life. Then, like most 2 month olds, it seemingly went to the bathroom in an inappropriate location — releasing a large volume of a yellow substance all over a parking lot in Boynton.

This 2021 Ford Explorer ST, brand new, leaked a yellow substance all over an area parking lot. It’s okay for a two month old child to do this, not a two month old SUV. (Photo: BocaNewsNow.com).

But unlike most two month olds, the ST then started steaming… making noise… and eventually died. Ford sent a flatbed to pick it up. That was nearly a month ago.

Everyone involved with the situation knows what the ST needs — a wiring harness worth less than $30. The problem, Ford isn’t making them. The company is blaming COVID — the all purpose excuse for everything right now. But that Ford continues to make Explorers which are being sold at area dealerships suggests the excuse is disingenuous. Ford has misrepresented multiple times, to multiple people, just when the part will be available.

Under Florida law, a car can be declared a “lemon” if it‘s out of service for 30 days. Apparently Ford knows it is approaching a problem. The company offered me $1500 to basically be quiet. A customer service “supervisor” by the name of Chuck in Houston also suggested being quiet is the best way forward — the part will get to Grieco, he told me, when it gets to Grieco.

I’ve always had a problem being quiet. Ford: you can’t buy my silence.

To the two million monthly readers of BocaNewsNow.com, know two things: Grieco Ford in Delray Beach, as a dealership and service location, is top notch. I have had no issues with Grieco whatsoever. And their new facility on Federal Highway is gorgeous. But the 2021 Ford Explorer ST is apparently an unmitigated disaster where a $28 part can’t be found in the parts network of the oldest American automaker in existence. That speaks volumes about a company’s ability to problem solve and service customers at a time when problem solving, and customer service, couldn’t be more important. Elon Musk gets it. It’s astonishing that a company like Ford does not.

Check back for updates on a resolution. Until then, stay away from the 2021 Explorer ST.
