Two people riding a Bird scooter together in East Village early Monday morning were injured in a hit-and-run crash, according to San Diego police.
Police were called to the scene of the crash, on Market Street near 13th Street, just after 4 a.m., according to Officer Sarah Foster.
The scooter riders, a 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman, were moving east on Market as they entered the intersection, when a white Ford Explorer turning south onto 13th Street hit them head on, Foster said.
The driver of the SUV then fled the scene.
Both scooter riders were transported to UC San Diego Health for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening , Foster said.
The Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the incident.
