Huntington Beach police declare unlawful assembly after crowd of 2,500 becomes 'unruly' | TheHill - The Hill

Huntington Beach, Calif., police declared an unlawful assembly Saturday night after a party crowd of 2,500, apparently drawn by a viral social media post, started to become unruly, CNN reported.

Police said they put in place an emergency curfew from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 5:30 a.m. Sunday after reports of a rowdy crowd in the streets shooting fireworks and vandalizing stores.

"As the crowd size continued to grow rapidly, large groups disbursed into various locations throughout the area, throwing bottles, rocks, fireworks, and other items at officers. At that time, the HBPD requested assistance from outside agencies," Huntington Beach police told CNN in a statement. "Throughout the course of the evening, over 150 officers from virtually all agencies within Orange County were deployed to Huntington Beach based on the pre-arranged request for assistance."

An Instagram post showed the scene of some crowds fleeing the area.

“When something goes viral in Huntington Beach it always brings the biggest crowds that are crazy. You can’t even drive down the street now. #huntingtonbeach #huntingtonbeachlocal #toocrazy #adrianskickback #morelikeariot,” the post said.

Authorities said they arrested 121 adults and 28 juveniles. They are charged with vandalism, the firing of dangerous/illegal fireworks, failure to disperse and curfew violations.

No one was seriously hurt during the incident, CNN reported.
