Former presidents send Biden bipartisan message of support - POLITICO

Former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton offered a joint video statement of bipartisan support for President Joe Biden on Wednesday as part of the closing events of his inauguration.

Standing together, the three former presidents — two Democrats and a Republican — expressed their commitment to America’s democracy across party lines, in a reflection of Biden’s campaign motif of unity through a divisive era. They emphasized that Americans had to come together in order to overcome the country’s pressing issues, including the coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed more than 400,000 American lives.

“Everyone needs to get off their high horse and reach out to their friends and neighbors and try to make it possible,” Clinton said.

The former leaders each showed their support for Biden, with Bush echoing the note his father, President George H. W. Bush, left for Clinton upon leaving the White House.

“Your success is our country’s success,” Bush said to Biden.

Obama expressed a similar sentiment to his former vice president, saying, “Joe, I’m proud of you.”

“And you and Kamala,” Obama said, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris, “need to know you’ve got all of us here rooting for your success.”
