The 2020 Ford Explorer (pictured) is an all-new model from the ground up, so we don’t expect too many changes for the 2021 model year. But it does look like the 2021 Explorer ST will receive some interior enhancements, as Ford Authority has learned.
The 2021 Explorer ST will receive some new High Gloss Black interior trim pieces in various ares of the cockpit and doors. These accents will complement the exterior trim of the ST, which also has its fair share of black accents including the wheels, grille, and much of the exterior trim.
The ST is the sporty version of the Ford Explorer, and is powered by a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 that produces 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. It comes exclusively with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive.
As we reported last week, 2021 Ford Explorer order banks opened up on July 13th, 2020. Production will begin on September 21st, 2020 at the automaker’s Chicago Assembly Plant, where the Explorer is built alongside the Lincoln Aviator.
Currently, it’s unclear what will be different for the 2021 Explorer, though a few colors will definitely be deleted and a few new ones will be added. Otherwise, we don’t expect too many changes, since the current-gen Explorer is only entering its second year of production.
The sixth-generation Ford Explorer is all-new from the ground up, and rides on the same Ford CD6 platform as the Lincoln Aviator. It’s available in a variety of trim levels including XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum, in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations. The XLT Sport will return in 2021, and recent spy photos seem to indicate that an off-road focused model is in the works, possibly an FX4 package.
