Dream Cruises’ cruise ship Explorer Dream is the first cruise ship to receive DNV GL’s certification in infection prevention for the maritime industry (CIP-M)
CIP-M integrates maritime specific standards, such as the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention’s vessel sanitation programme, and incorporates national and industry guidelines.
The certification surveys and audits are performed by DNV GL’s surveyor teams of healthcare infection prevention and control experts together with experienced maritime auditors.
As part of the CIP-M certification, DNV GL assessed the company’s safety management system with the scope of infectious disease management. Annual surveys will be conducted to verify continued compliance with DNV GL’s CIP-M requirements.
Genting Cruise Lines president Kent Zhu said “We are taking positive steps to gradually resume operations, starting in Taiwan. These include customised safety and preventive measures in accordance to DNV GL’s CIP-M certification programme and the local authorities to protect and provide peace of mind for our guests and crew, and to complement our existing facilities such as the 100% fresh air ventilation on board our ships.”
Genting Cruise Lines said it has reviewed and bolstered its overall prevention and response plan for the recommencement of its Dream Cruises and Star Cruises ships.
These include mandatory temperature screening and preboarding health declarations for embarking and disembarking; thorough and higher frequency sanitisation, disinfection and enhanced hygiene procedures for guest cabins and public areas; online check in and boarding at designated times to minimise congestion and onboard venues operating at reduced capacity. Self-service at buffet restaurants will also be suspended with all food and beverages served by crew wearing face masks and gloves as added precautionary measures.
Genting Cruise Lines, which owns Dream Cruise, is DNV GL’s first maritime customer for the CIP-M certification. The Bahamas flagged Explorer Dream is set to re-commence operations in Keelung, Taiwan from 26 July 2020 offering a series of round-trip ‘island-hopping’ cruises, including a two, three and four-night itinerary to Taiwan’s Penghu, Matsu, Hualien and Kinmen islands.
