Genting Cruise Lines has announced that the Explorer Dream cruise ship was deep-cleaned according to the EU standard ahead of its cruise itineraries in Taiwan.
Additionally, the crew also underwent a 14-day quarantine period when they arrived on land.
The crew has tested negative for Covid-19 and will now undergo another seven day self-health monitoring period.
Last month, Genting Cruise Lines announced that Dream Cruises will restart cruise operations from 26 July on the Explorer Dream and will be first cruise company to restart services after the lockdown due to Covid-19.
It will operate the Explorer Dream ship on a two and three-night Taiwan Island-Hopping itineraries.
The ship will depart from Keelung and will stop at Penghu, Matzu and Kinmen islands.
Genting Cruise Lines president Kent Zhu said: “We have been working tirelessly to prepare for the resumption of our cruise operations and we have been exploring with local authorities the feasibility of hosting a medical professional aboard the ship to work as a consultant in collaboration with our two in-house professional doctors.
“We have implemented the newly added role of infection control officer onboard to ensure our extensive preventive measures are functioning smoothly in case of emergencies.”
Before the first sailing, the cruise ship will participate in an outbreak simulation drill, which will be carried out under the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control guidance.
Taiwan Public Health Association medical experts will also consult on the drill.
The design of Explorer Dream permits 100% external fresh air to be filtered and supplied to the passenger cabins and other board public areas.
The ship will also have two professional doctors and one of them will be the new onboard infection control officer.
The 24-hour medical centre on the ship will offer real-time RT-PCR diagnostic rapid tests and nasal swab tests.
The medical centre also provides isolation wards with negative room pressure, while the cabins have the provision to be converted into quarantine rooms if needed.
