The Microsoft Teams web app no longer supports Internet Explorer 11 as the company pivots to Microsoft Edge and begins to sunset legacy solutions.
The company announced in August that Microsoft Teams, its flagship unified communications and collaboration platform that has exploded in popularity largely due to pandemic-induced remote work, would no longer support IE 11 as of Nov. 30.
That means customers won’t be able to connect to Teams on IE 11 and will instead have to use Edge or another browser.
According to Microsoft, customers will have a “degraded experience or will be unable to connect” to Microsoft 365 apps and services like Teams on IE 11. New features won’t be available, or certain features may cease to work when accessing the app on IE 11.
That wasn’t the only service earmarked for end of life, however.

In the same August announcement, Microsoft said the end of life for Microsoft Edge Legacy would be on March 9, 2021, and the remaining Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support IE 11 beginning on Aug. 17, 2021.
Users are instead urged to switch to the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, which the company says keeps up with the changing online environment.
“Customers have been using IE 11 since 2013 when the online environment was much less sophisticated than the landscape today. Since then, open web standards and newer browsers—like the new Microsoft Edge—have enabled better, more innovative online experiences,” the announcement says.
“We believe that Microsoft 365 subscribers, in both consumer and commercial contexts, will be well served with this change through faster and more responsive web access to greater sets of features in everyday toolsets like Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and more.”
The company noted that IE 11 wasn’t going away and that customers’ legacy apps and investments will continue to work with the browser.
