Thousands of President Trump’s most devoted Georgia followers gathered Saturday to cheer his first rally since Election Day — as the Peach State prepares for yet another election, a double runoff that has both of its Republican senators fighting for their political lives.
“We’re going to stand with President Trump because he is fighting for us,” Sen. Kelly Loeffler told the crowd at Valdosta Regional Airport as they awaited the expected arrival of Air Force One, carrying both the president and First Lady Melania Trump.
She did not directly address the continuing controversy over Trump’s attempt to get Georgia’s Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, to order a signature audit of the state’s mailed-in ballots — but the crowd did.
Chants of “Stop the Steal!” rang out throughout Loeffler’s five-minute speech.
It fell to Sen. David Perdue, fighting to win a second Senate term, to broach the elephant in the room.
“I’m going to fight with this president until he gets every legal vote cast counted correctly, and every illegal vote counted thrown out,” Perdue promised.
But he quickly pivoted to the party’s main theme: convincing dispirited Republican voters that wins for himself and Loeffler are their only shot at preserving Trump’s presidential legacy and thwarting the Democrats’ congressional agenda.
“We’re not ready to give Georgia up, y’all,” he said.
