President Trump slammed top congressional and Senate Democrats on Tuesday, calling them “horrible people” who make the United States the hardest country “to deal with.”
Speaking to “Fox & Friends” on Election Day morning, the commander-in-chief made the remarks after being asked to share his personal feelings about what it is like facing constant criticism as leader of the free world.
“Well, it’s been mean,” he told the network, adding that he had dealt with “horrible people” before referencing the nicknames he uses for House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
All three prominent Democrats have been fierce political foes of the president since he took office in January 2017.
While discussing the prominent lawmakers, Trump went on to say that friends of his would ask which country was the hardest “to deal with.”
“Is it Russia? Is it China? Is it North Korea?” he said friends would ask, to which he said he would reply, “By far, the most difficult country to deal with is the US. It’s not even close.”
Trump said his friends would usually respond that they thought he must be kidding when he would make such a claim, but the commander-in-chief said he was not, calling it “a shame.”
“The inner workings of the US [are] very difficult, unless you want to sit there and do nothing,” he argued, a reference to his 2016 campaign pledge to “drain the swamp” and go after the business-as-usual politics plaguing DC.
Asked by the network how he felt going into Tuesday’s race, the president expressed optimism.
“Well, we feel very good, we have crowds that nobody has ever had before. I think you can agree, it’s been incredible, the crowds have been incredible,” he said, adding that he believed “that translates into a lot of votes.”
The president added that the campaign was getting “very good responses.”
“I think we’re doing incredible in Florida … I think we’re doing really well with [the] African American vote, I think we’re doing very very well with the Hispanic vote. ”
Calling it “an incredible three weeks,” the commander-in-chief argued that he and his team were “lucky” to be able to go back out on the campaign trail and take part in so many rallies ahead of Election Day.
