President Trump’s campaign is awash in cash five months ahead of the general election.
Trump and the Republican National Committee pulled in $74 million worth of donations in May, his campaign announced Saturday — a record for the month that gave him $265 million in cash on hand. The total beat his April fund-raising by $12 million and increased his overall war chest for the cycle to $817 million.
But Trump’s May haul was surpassed by that of his rival Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee, which raised $81 million in his first month as the party’s presumptive nominee.
“After yet another massive fundraising haul, it remains clear that the enthusiasm behind President Trump’s re-election campaign goes unmatched,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said.
The Biden campaign has some catching up to do: it and the DNC had just $100 million cash on hand on April 30, the most recent figure the two have released.
Trump raised a record one-day total of $14 million on June 14, his birthday, his campaign announced — a figure that Biden plans to counter with his first fundraiser with his old boss, President Barack Obama, on Tuesday.
